Some of you might be wondering : What is Savasana? And what happens during the last pose at the end of each Yoga Class?

Savasana offers numerous benefits and ulimatley promoting a deep relaxation, reducing stress and promoting overall wellbeing. It calms the nervous system, lowers blood pressure, and helps release muscle tension. It might also enhance mental clarity, improve sleep quality and boosts emotional stability.

It is usually the last pose after Yoga practice and is a great balancer in terms of our nervous system. While much of the physical Yoga practice is designed to up-regulate the body and stimulate, Savasana is the down-regulator.

During Savasana the practitioner shifts away from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic side, and experience a calming soothing release. Over time, Savasana helps us to decrease anxiety.

With its regular practice shifting away from hyper-stimulation to a state of down-regulation and to a place where digestion, the immune system, and other essential systems are restored and enhanced.
